Marianne Martin, the lady behind Nouvelle Haute Couture’s success

While in college taking up Tourism, Marianne Martin opened a store of “ready-to-wear” clothes that she brought in from Hong Kong, Thailand and Korea, with her family and friends’ support. At age 20, she earned her first million. When her clothing business went bankrupt, she set up her M Travel Agency. Discovering the latest trends in fashion and entrepreneurship in her every travel, she formalized her interest in fashion by going back to school at Philippine Fashion Institute that gave birth to Nouvelle Haute Couture, now one of the most sought-after design houses when it comes to bridal fashion.

Balancing her time for family and business, Martin’s perseverance and passion propelled Nouvelle Haute Couture to become a well-known fashion house to celebrities like Kapamilya stars Kim Chiu, Toni and Alex Gonzaga and Anne Curtis-Smith, among many others.

Empowering the woman of today and celebrating every woman's uniqueness is reflected in Martin’s creations. Nouvelle Haute Couture is known to its clients for its elegant, timeless and edgy designs. It continues to remain in the limelight by showcasing its merchandise by dressing up celebrities and holding fashion shows.

Martin joined forces with 19 of the biggest names in fashion for an unforgettable moment in the bridal fashion scene dubbed "She Said Yes! The 2nd She Said Yes Bridal Fair: A Crowne Plaza Wedding and Engagement Showcase" held at Crowne Plaza Manila Galleria Grand Ballroom on June 15.

At the bridal fashion show, each designer was only allowed to show one bridal gown. Martin described her all-white bridal outfit as something inspired by the Victorian Age but with a modern twist. "It's classy and plain but very dramatic. I'm always like that. I get inspiration to design clothes from nature. Most of the time, I go out of town to be inspired. Even with the fabrics, I get it from local distributors. You won't be inspired anymore in Metro Manila because it's a bit chaotic here," Martin revealed.

Martin points out that the price range of her wedding outfit package is very reasonable. "I am not expensive. A simple wedding gown costs P15,000 to P20,000. But if they want sky's the limit, then I will give them everything. I'm the simplest of the simple. In fashion, I always want to achieve the visions of my clients. That for me is true victory," Martin said.

Martin wants her clients to stand-out, feel confident and relaxed whenever they wear her creations. "I always believe that the customer is always right. So if they want me to create a special outfit, I would ask them questions about the event, venue, time, and a bit of their personality. That's how I deal with them,” Martin added. Nouvelle Haute Couture is located at 136 Katipunan Road, St. Ignatius,
Quezon City. (Report by Eton Concepcion)
