Winwyn Marquez’ determination, key to winning Reina Hispano Americana 2017

Teresita Ssen Lacsamana Marquez’ recent victory in Reyna Hispanoamericana 2017 in Sta. Cruz, Bolivia only proved once more to Latina beauties that Filipinas are a force to be reckoned with even in their own territory. Winwyn, as she is known in local showbiz, bested 26 other candidates, the first time that an Asian with hispanic influence was allowed to participate in the annual pageant.

“I would say that it’s my determination to win. Preparation helps but it’s the will to win that counts in the end,” said the 25-year-old, daughter of 80’s screen goddess Alma Moreno and Joey Marquez, during her homecoming victory presscon held recently at Annabels Restaurant in Tomas Morato, Quezon City.

Winwyn was crowned by last year’s titlist Maria Camila Soleibe of Colombia after winning over fierce contenders Akisha albert of Curacao (Virreina Hispanoamericana 2017), Maria Lais Berte of Brazil (1st runner up), Maria Victoria D’Ambrosio of Venezuela (2nd), Karla Maria Lopez Berumen of Mexico (3rd) and Katherine Anazgo Orozco of Bolivia (4th).

“Words cannot express how grateful I am to all of you, and I want to thank you for supporting me all the way, for believing in my ‘winwyn’ in Bolivia. I dedicate this win to all Filipinos,” said the newest toast of the town who looked queenly wearing her Reina Hispanoamericana crown.

“Using an interpreter was actually a disadvantage. When you cut your answer to give way to the interpreter, it may cause you to lose focus on your thoughts, and may not even be interpreted well to get your message across,” Winwyn said in answer to her final Q&A performance which many believed earned her the judges’ nod.

“It feels unreal, surreal,” she said when asked how it feels wearing the crown. It all started when I showcased my dance talent because that’s me and the rest followed. While I had only two supports in the crowd to cheer and clap, my borther and auntie, I also felt that the Latinos accepted me when I was named as the winner,” Winwyn said.

“In all ways possible, I will use my crown to support my advocacy,” said the actress at the event which was attended by boyfriend Mark Herras. Winwyn’s crowning will be shown on local TV on November 18 while a planned victory parade will be held in Paranaque on November 20. By Eton Concepcion/Photos by Lito Caleon
