The 86
delegates of the 17th Miss Earth pageant paraded in their respective national
costumes during the highly anticipated national costume competition held on
Monday night at the Century Park Hotel Manila.
Gold winners
in six regions were Portugal’s Gloria Silva (Central Western Europe), Russia’s
Lada Akimova (Eastern Europe), Guatemala’s Maria Jose Castaneda (North and
Central America), Bolivia’s Giancarla Fernandez (South America), Ghana’s Maud
Fadi (Africa) and the Philippines’ Karen Ibasco (Asia).
Ibasco wore a
crosses-decorated, Spanish era-inspired Filipiniana, an original creation by
Laguna fashion designer Louie Pangilinan. Thailand’s Paweensuda Drouin won the
Silver while Japan’s Yasuyo Saito won the Bronze.
Other winners
for Silver were Italy, Cyprus, Canada, Venezuela and Angola. Other Bronze
winners were Wales, Slovenia, Dominican Republic, Paraguay and Cameroon.
Special awards
were also given to Puerto Rico's Karla Aponte for the Best Eco video and the
Miss Photogenic award to Vietnam's Le Thi Ha Thu.

With the theme
“Heroines Fighting Climate Change,” the winner of Miss Earth 2017 will be known
on November 4 during a 2-hour spectacular television special, coronation night
to be held at the MOA Arena, hosted by CNN Philippines James Deakin with live
performances by pop music sensation Shontelle and renowned violinist Iskandar
Widjaja, with telecast on FOXlife (formerly Starworld) and delayed telecast
