Miss Philippines finishes at Top 5 of Miss Scuba International 2017


Miss Scuba Philippines Sherlyn Legaspi Doloriel finished in the Top 5 at the grand finale of the 7th Miss Scuba International pageant held at the Magellan Sutera Habour, in Kota Kinabalu, Malaysia on November 18.

Miss USA Britanny Anne Novick, a 25-year-old, veterinary research technician from California, bested 15 contestants including Doloriel, to succeed outgoing Miss Scuba International 2016 Varsha Rajkhowan, as ambassadress for the promotion of the diving industry and global marine conservation.  

Miss United Kingdom Alexandra Talbot Prior, a 25-year-old, wildlife rehabilitator, was named 1st runner up, while Miss Latvia Magda Jenthena, a 24-year-old, photographer, finished as 2nd runner-up at the 2017 Miss Scuba International.

A certified rescue diver since 2012, Novick works for non-profit organizations in the US that tackle marine conservation. She is also a marine conservation biologist who passionately involves herself in conservation work for marine mammals, including mammal rescue, rehabilitation and release. Novick also won the subsidiary title of Miss Marine Conservation.

Doloriel, a 23-year-old, Business Administration graduate at Xavier University, is a licensed scuba diver of the Professional Association of Diving Instructors (PADI). The former Miss Cagayan de Oro 2016 was awarded the subsidiary title of Miss Photogenic while Miss France Alice Nelly Portevin won as Miss Talent, Miss Bhutan Kuenga Lhaden as Miss Congeniality and Miss Indonesia Madhina Nur Muthia Suryadi as Best in National Costume.

The Miss Scuba International Organization, founded by Mr. Robert Lo in 201, hopes that by sharing the beauty and wonders of the underwater world via beauty queens, it will enable more people to understand how fragile our oceans are and how much more everyone needs to do our share to make a big difference in protecting these bodies of water. The unique pageant is produced to celebrate, not only, the inner beauty and courage of today's modern women, but also to simultaneously advocate worldwide marine conservation.
