Who will bring
home a crown? Three Bb. Pilipinas 2017 titlists Maria Angelica de Leon,
Elizabeth Clenci and Nelda Ibe met the press and supporters recently during an
exclusive send-off gathering held at the Monet Ballroom of Novotel
Manila-Araneta Center for their forthcoming international competitions in Miss
International, Miss Grand International
and Miss Globe, respectively.
Clenci, a
26-year-old, Filipino-Romanian beauty, from Mandaue, Cebu will be the first to
compete aiming to win at the 2017 Miss Grand International in Phu Quoc, Vietnam
on October 25, 2017. Last year’s Philippine representative, Nicole Cordoves,
finished as First runner-up to Miss Indonesia Ariska Putri Pertiwi in Las
Vegas, USA.
A music major
and plays bassist, Clenci, who grew up in Australia, was recently designated a
National Peace Ambassador by the Office of the Presidential Adviser on the
Peace Process. “It’s an incredible honor and I cannot wait to do everything I
can as an ambassador of peace to inspire open communication, equality, and
understanding not only within the nation but hopefully on a global scale,” she
said on her designation.
Ibe, a
23-year-old, graduate in English Literature from Tarlac State University and
currently a Cadet Pilot, is a Gawad Kalinga volunteer. A native of Tarlac, Ibe
will compete at the Miss Globe pageant in Tirana, Albania set on November 3,
2017 aiming to duplicate Ann Lorraine Colis’ victory in 2015.
De Leon,
daughter of actors Christopher de Leon and Sandy Andolong, has the toughest
challenge on her shoulders as she aims for a first ever back-to-back win in the
history of the Miss International pageant. The Philippines’ Kylie Versoza is
the reigning Miss International title holder.
De Leon, a 23-year-old,
5’8” stunner who finished a culinary course in New Zealand, is currently
filming her film debut “Ang Panday” an entry in this year’s Metro Manila Film
Festival. De Leon, a dog lover who also loves to watch people and make-up
videos, has been vocal about her beliefs and opinions on current issues
besetting the country. “It’s hard to wrap my mind around the fact that people
are okay with murder because their leader says it is okay,” she tweeted boldly
about the waging war on drugs. De Leon will try to win the country’s 7th Miss
International title on November 14 in Tokyo, Japan. (Words and Photos by Eton B. Concepcion)
