The country’s
bet at the Miss World 2017 pageant, Laura Victoria Lehmann, and at Miss Reina
Hispanoamericana 2017, Teresita Ssen ‘Winwyn’ Marquez flew to China and Bolivia,
recently, both expressing confidence of taking home a crown.
Lehmann, a
24-year-old, Fil-American beauty and graduate of Ateneo de Manila University;
and Marquez, the 25-year-old, daughter of Alma Moreno and Joey Marquez, were
given a send-off party at Anabel's Restaurant before their departure. Miss Eco Philippines Cynthia Thomalla, Miss
Multinational Philippines Sophia Senoron, 1st Princess Glyssa Leian Perez and
2nd Princess Zara Carbonell were present at the affair to give their support.
“We should all
be positive about it,” Lehmann told the fans and reporters in reference to the
controversy that bugged the Miss World pageant’s results in recent years. “I still believe in the integrity of the Miss
World pageant,” the courtside reporter and dog lover added.
“I hope I’m
winwyn there (in Bolivia),” Marquez exclaimed. I’ll be up against many talented
Latina beauties. Language will not be the basis, but the heart to perform,” the
excited Kapuso star said. Marquez, a
graduate of San Beda College Alabang with a Teaching Certificate, has the
distinction of being the first Filipina to compete and the first Asian entry in
the pageant that celebrates Hispanic culture.
Marquez hopes
that Filipinos will vote for her on the Reina Hispanoamericana Facebook page,
to give her an automatic entrance in the pageant finals. Voting ends on
November 4, which is the grand coronation night to be held in Santa Cruz,
Bolivia. Lehmann will compete against over 100 candidates at the finals of Miss
World 2017 to be held in Sanya City Arena on November 18. Words and Photos By ETON B.
