Womans Journal - Outstanding Women Awardees for 2017 Hon. Florida Robes - Congresswoman
of San Jose del Monte, Bulacan
|
Only in her first year as a neophyte congresswoman, Florida
Robes has come a long way since playing the beautiful businesswoman-wife to
ex-representative Arthur Robes, now Mayor of the City of San Jose del Monte,
Bulacan.
Designing programs for her husband in Congress for nearly
a decade, Ate Rida found herself creating her own “Alagang Ate Rida,” a
non-traditional program which she successfully used as flagship program when
she ran and won a seat in Congress for the lone district of San Jose del Monte in
last year’s elections. “Alagang Ate Rida” generated impact and support from her
San Jose constituents as it delivers innovative concept in public service
covering four major services in health, education, job and family care to cater
to the people in alleviating poverty.
The 45-year-old, Bustos town native, Ate Rida serves in
Congress as the Chief Political Affairs Officer and Vice Chairperson of the Committees
on People Participation and Civil Service and Professional Regulation. She has a Masters Degree in Public Administration major
in Public Personnel Management and Public policy at the American University. She completed a course in Executive Education for
"Women and Power" at the Harvard University.
Congresswoman Robes is proving to be a dedicated public
servant choosing not to take a rest as other traditional politicians do. While
waiting, she took some courses in Wharton University before the opening of
Congress. In her few months in office,
she has authored 54 House Bills and Co-Authored 63 House Bills. She has taken
the initiative to push for more infrastructure projects including six flood
control projects, seven road projects and fourteen multi-purpose buildings
construction.
To boost city tourism, Ate Rida conceptualized and
launched in September 2016 the “Tanglawan Festival” as an annual celebration
during the commemoration of the city’s founding day. Derived from the word
”ilaw” which means “light,” it aims to showcase the genuine cheerfulness of San
Joseňos and highlight the vision of the people to make San Jose a sustainable
city while honoring the Lady of Lourdes, a popular religious figure in the
city.
Coming in the heels of her winning as “Outstanding
Congresswoman” given in December 2016, Ate Rida was recently named one of the
recipients of the “Outstanding Women of the Year 2017”. Words by Eton Concepcion/Photos by Eton Concepcion and Lito Caleon
