BAFTA award-winning director to produce children’s TV series in the Philippines

3-time BAFTA Awardee, film maker/director, CRAIG LINES during our round-table interview @ Palm Grill, Tomas Morato, QC.

BAFTA-award winning British filmmaker Craig Lines, who has been involved in film production for more than two decades, has embarked on directing TV shows in the Philippines, a first in his highly illustrious career, to be shown on Channel HUE.

A veteran in all aspects of filmmaking, mainly directing award-winning prime-time British television drama series and writing, producing and directing many medium length and short films, which have had theatrical releases, the two-time BAFTA-winning director has also worked on dozens of commercials, corporate programmes and documentaries.

The 57-year-old, vegetarian filmmaker, born and raised in Wallsend, United Kingdom, has been residing in the country and has recently completed a 2-month assignment as Fellow Professor in Film Making at the De La Salle College of Saint Benilde lecturing in film writing, storyboard and film making. Presently working with Boris McGooligan Films, Lines received a Honorary Degree in Fine Arts from the University of Sunderland.

Lines is a full member of the Directors Guild of Great Britain and the Association of Motion Picture Sound and Institute of Professional Sound since 1989. His experience with sound began with music production and recording and live sound operation led becoming a freelance film and video sound recordist/production mixer with involvement in sound design and post-production. He has since achieved many credits as a film maker and director which gave him a unique knowledge of the requirements of sound from the perspective of the director and of the needs of production. In addition, Lines owns and operates an extensive range of up to date, professional audio equipment including full drama kit and protocols.

Winner of the BAFTA Children’s Award and Best Drama “Tracy Beaker Returns,” in 2010, Lines has also won from the Royal Television Society Awards and most recently a Best Feature Film Award for “Train Station” at the 2016 Los Angeles Diversity Film Festival, Kosova and Kansas International Film Festivals. Other awards include Festival Awards, Dance Magazine Award, Poetry in Film Bronze Award, Best SOAP Award and SMF Best Short Film Award.

Lines’ body of work on television include Emmerdale,  Byker Grove, Doctors, Bad Girls, Coronation Street, Footballers' Wives, No Going Back, Grange Hill, Casualty, Tracy Beaker Returns, The Dumping Ground, Young Dracula and Hollyoaks which lasted for 55 episodes from 1997 to 2006.

In his social media posts, Lines said “My speciality is directing drama and films of all genres and budgets. I have had a significant amount of experience in developing and directing TV series, both in the UK and abroad. I worked in Spain for one year directing a highly successful series “Is Harry on the Boat?”, and for one year, I was brought in to develop and direct a major European TV series based in Romania. I don't agree that there are limitations of creativity due to unforgiving schedules and moderate budgets and I always keep my work stylish, creative and high quality despite any constraints," Lines said.

Lines, who worked with PHAB children and adults in drama groups and film making, the BBC director recently finished developing a series of children’s programmes in the Philippines, since moving in the country last December. Lines, aside from his passion for Children projects, also helps promote animal welfare causes.
