Achieving
a back-to-back win in a major international beauty pageant is pretty much a
wishful thinking but for the country’s bet in the forthcoming Miss Universe
contest, Maxine Medina, it is doable with proper training, focus and
prayers. “I am ready, and I am confident
at this time to win the crown for the country,” the exotic, 26-year-old, model and
interior designer said during the send-off party given by the Binibining Pilipinas
Charities, Inc. (BPCI) held at the Versailles Tent, Novotel Manila in Araneta
Center on Tuesday.
“The
pressure to win is at its greatest this moment, but your words of encouragement
really help strengthen me a lot. I did what I could to prepare and I really
hope that it all pays off come pageant night,” Medina assured the members of
the press and all the well-wishers present at the event, including BPCI
chairperson, former Miss International Mrs. Stella Marquez-Araneta.
Fellow
Binibining Pilipinas reigning titlists, led by newly crowned Miss International
2016 Kylie Verzosa gathered around the excited pretender to Pia Wurtzbach’s
crown. “I cannot wait to see you with
the Miss Universe crown on your head. Please do it for us and for the whole
country,” the beaming Verzosa said to an emotional Medina who could not help
but shed tears for the shower of support she was getting to win and keep the
most coveted Miss Universe crown for the country.
Madam
Marquez-Araneta said that she has high confidence in Medina to win the crown
while Medina's mother, Maria Fe, who came with younger daughter Ferica, said that
the whole family is standing by her daughter’s goal to best represent the
country in the world’s most anticipated pageant. “I’ve been praying hard for her to guide her
according to "God's plan," the equally beautiful, former model mom
told reporters.
Medina
also revealed that local designer Rhett Eala will provide for her national
costume and other outfits she will use for the various Miss Universe preliminary
events.
With
the arrival in Manila of the more than 80 candidates from around the world, all
eyes are on Maria Mika Maxine Medina’s performance to duplicate Venezuela’s
only back-to-back victory in Miss Universe pageant’s history. Words and Photos by Eton Concepcion
