The year is coming to an
exciting end in pageantry as the last pair of Bb. Pilipinas queens begins their
quest for glory in the international pageant arena. Bb. Pilipinas Globe 2016
Nichole Manalo and Bb. Pilipinas Supranational 2016 Joanna Louise Eden
expressed confidence on their chances to bring home a crown to follow up Kylie
Verzosa’s title-conquest at the 2016 Miss International pageant in Japan,
during the press conference and send-off ceremony held at Novotel Manila in
Araneta Center by the Binibining Pilpinas Charities, Inc.
“Just be yourselves, enjoy the
moment and I am sure you will make our country proud,” Maxine Medina, the
country’s bet at the Miss Universe pageant in Manila, advised Manalo, who was
elegant in light blue gown and Eden, simply gorgeous in a black gown.
Manalo, sister of former beauty
queens Kate and Bianca, will fly to Tirana, Albania to compete at Miss Globe
2016, finals is set on November 25. The 27-year-old, Professional Nurse, is
under pressure to claim a back-to-back win to duplicate reigning Miss Globe Ann
Lorraine Colis’ win last year, and to be able to pursue her advocacy to push
for universal access to quality health care.
Eden, a 19-year-old, half
Australian beauty and presently a student in International studies major in
English at De La Salle University, is also aiming to duplicate Miss
Supranational 2013 Mutya Datul’s feat. Eden, who loves to play the flute and
saxophone, will travel to Poland for the Miss Supranational 2016 finals to be
held at Krynica-Zdroj Spa Resort on December 2.
Medina and Bb. Pilipinas runners-up
Jehza Huelar and Angelica Alita also feted Miss Grand International 2016 first
runner up Nicole Cordoves whose outstanding performance against 76 contestants
has set the standard high for the two departing beauties. Cordoves’ “I would
choose Donald Trump” answer was wildly jeered during the finals in Las Vegas
but was praised by many in social media. “I have no regrets, and am thankful
for the experience, which I describe as transcending, to be able to have a
chance to talk and be heard by millions of viewers. It’s something that really
reinforced who I really am,” said the 24-year-old, Ateneo Economics graduate. Words and Photos By Eton B. Concepcion
