One of the most promising candidates in Binibining Pilipinas 2020 is Manila representative Patrizia Mariah Laureola Garcia with no less than the Mayor of Manila himself, Francisco “Yorme/Isko” Moreno Domagoso, backing her up. Just turned 26, Garcia, a graduate of De La Salle University in Education and Psychology and now completing her Master’s degree in Public Administration at the University of the Philippines, is competing on the platform of Filipino Nationalism.
“My desire is to promote
Filipino nationalism, the importance of identifying ourselves as Filipinos,
knowing where we came from, our history, and how we can forge a strong Filipino
identity. I want send a message to the Filipino people, that it’s never too
late to manifest unity. I think that what is happening in the City of Manila is
a solid proof that positive change is not impossible, that the Filipino people
can be disciplined. Mayor Isko has made these changes possible,” Garcia said.
“I’m also helping promote
the city’s tourism and heritage in line with the beautification efforts of the
Mayor. An example is the new look of Jones Bridge which is an important aspect
in history of the city,” Garcia said during her courtesy call at the Office of
the Mayor.
Asked on what among the
titles at stake in Binibini that she would like to win, Garcia answered, “While
I prefer to take the Miss (Philippines) International title, what is really
important is how I could help the Philippines through this platform and
represent our country internationally.”
A sports enthusiast and
juggles in several things to keep herself busy, Garcia desires to work in the
government someday. Born in Old Sta. Mesa, Garcia is proud to be called ‘Batang
Maynila (child of Manila) and takes inspiration in the discipline and
achievements made by Mayor Isko with whom she asked permission to represent
Manila at the Binibining Pilipinas 2020 pageant. (Report by Eton Concepcion / Photos by
