Binibining Pilipinas 2020 remembers the Black Mamba

Led by Bb. Pilipinas chairman Madame Stella Marquez-Araneta, the forty candidates of Bb. Pilipinas 2020 trooped to the Smart Araneta Coliseum to pay tribute to NBA legend Kobe Bryant who was killed in a helicopter crash.

The beauties gathered before a large tarpaulin bearing Kobe’s photo and each wrote her message for the “Black Mamba,” another tribute to Bryant after fans joined the entire basketball world in mourning his passing. The 5-time Los Angeles Lakers champion visited the Philippines five times, first in 1998 and returning in 2007, 2009, 2011 and 2013, playing exhibition games at the Big Dome.

“I think Kobe Bryant remains one of the Filipinos' most beloved basketball players, and I’m here to honor his memory,” said candidate no. 21 Hannah Arnold.

Aside from being an icon in sports, Kobe Bryant was a great father and family man, who should be emulated," said candidate no. 13, Samantha Bernardo

“Kobe made great contribution and big impact in the world and here, not only in basketball, but also in his Mamba Mentality, to keep going for your goal,” said candidate no. 25 Carina Cariño.

“While I’m not really a big basketball fan, I think that Bryant had inspired a lot of people, and I am one of them,” said candidate no. 36 Vickie Rushton.

“Never fear, to sum up what the Mamba Mentality is. It means to be able to constantly try to be the best version of yourself, to try to be better today than you were yesterday,” Bryant said as he spoke to a number of different teams across various sports about developing the Mamba Mentality along with his leadership philosophy after her retired from NBA in 2016.
