The Miss Earth
2017 preliminaries started with the swimsuit and talent competitions and a
tree-planting activity for a group of thirty at the Pontefino Hotel's Orchard in Batangas City. A
total of 86 candidates are competing in this year’s edition of the
Manila-based, Environment-protection-themed pageant divided into 3 groups that
will visit top destinations in the country including Boracay, Ilocos Norte and Isabela.
Miss Puerto
Rico Karla Aponte won the gold medal while Miss Switzerland Sarah Peyrel and
Miss USA Andreia Gibau won silver and bronze, respectively, during the Miss
Earth 2017 swimsuit competition for Group 3 delegates held on October 14 at the
Pontefino Hotel, Batangas City’s leading venue for major corporate and social
events gathering.
Aponte was
also named Miss JACMI while Miss Northern Ireland Maire Lynch and Miss
Ukraine Diana Mironenko took the title as Miss Pontefino Estates and Miss
Pontefino Hotel, respectively.
Earlier, in group
2’s Swimsuit competition held at Versailles Palace Alabang on October 11, Miss
Philippines Karen Ibasco won the gold while Miss Peru Karen Isabel Rojas and
Miss Russia Lada Akimova won silver and bronze, respectively. Named Best in
Talent were Miss Cyprus Artemis Charalambous (Gold); Miss Cook Islands Mona
Taio (Silver) and Miss Vietnam Le Thi Ha Thu (Bronze).
Rojas also won
the gold medal in long gown competition held on October 17 at Joy~Nostalg
Hotel & Suites in Pasig City. Miss Costa Rica Fernanda Rodrìguez
and Miss Philippines Ibasco tied for silver while Miss Nigeria Eucharia
Akani won the bronze.
The 86
delegates of Miss Earth 2017 on Wednesday, October 18, walked the runway
at Century Park Hotel Manila on October 18 for the beauty of “Figure and
Form” prejudging round, the first of three prejudging rounds, which also
include the poise and beauty of face, and intelligence rounds, to determine who
will make the semi-finalists of the pageant.
The national costume competition will be held on October 30 at the
Century Park Hotel before the grand finals on November 4 at the Mall Of Asia Arena,
