Former gasoline boy competes in Mister Universe-Tourism 2017

CJ Querol, the gasoline attendant who became a viral sensation last year, will compete in Mister Universe-Tourism 2017, the newest addition to male beauty competitions.  Querol, who hails from Pandi and Balagtas, Bulacan and won the Manhunt Philippines International 2016-17 title in last year’s Misters of Filipinas pageant, was handpicked by Prime Event Productions Philippines Foundation Inc. (PEPPS) as the country’s representative in the inaugural Mr. Universe-Tourism, now in full swing after its launching in June 2017.

The 29-year-old, 6-foot-tall, High School student was discovered through Facebook when his good-looking photo while pumping gas for motorists at the Seaoil gas station in Edsa made the rounds on social media. Querol , who once performed menial jobs as tricycle driver, delivery boy and computer shop attendant to support his mother who was separated from his father, has modeled for fashion designer Francis Libiran and  became a Seaoil company brand ambassador.

Querol will compete against some 30-40 candidates from around the world at the Finals of Mr. Universe-Tourism 2017 to be held at the Palacio de Maynila, in Malate, Manila on October 15, 2017 to be hosted Edu Manzano and sportscaster-beauty queen Ganiel Krishnan, with judges socialite-philanthropist Margarita ‘Tingting’ Cojuangco, MTRCB chairman Rachel Arenas and Senator Nancy Binay, among others. "I will do my best to become gracious host to the international candidates and to win the title to make our country proud,” promised the shy-type hunk who has plans to continue his studies.

Mr. Tourism-Universe 2017 is the second pageant to be organized and presented by PEPPS, headed by president and CEO Carlo Morris Galang, after the recent Mister Grand International 2017 pageant held at the Crossroad Center in Quezon City won by Australia’s Michaelangelo Skyllas with Thailand’s Ratchada Hamphanon (1st runner-up), Vietnam’s Nguyen Tien Dat (2nd runner-up), Germany’s Hammid Noor (3rd runner-up) and the Philippines’ Joshua Reginald Banatin (4th runner-up).  Words and Photos by Eton Concepcion
