Cebuana lass wins Mutya ng Pilipinas Asia Pacific International 2017

Statuesque Ilene Astrid De Vera was named top winner at the finals night of the 49th Mutya ng Pilipinas quest held recently at Newport Performing Arts Theater Resorts World-Manila in Pasay City.  An early favorite among press people, the 21-year-old, model from Cebu City won the Mutya ng Pilipinas Asia-Pacific International title and earned the right to represent the country at the Miss Asia Pacific-International pageant to be held in Manila in October 2017.

De Vera, a Mass Communication graduate of the University of the Philippines-Cebu, was asked by judge, 80-year-old, emcee and columnist Johnny Litton, during the Q&A round what title she would give a movie based on her life. “I would like to have the title “A Single Mom’s Child,” and also portray myself as a child being brought up by a single mom. My mother was my inspiration in everything I did and I’m happy she raised me well, to be standing here infront of you and show her how proud I am,” the real estate officer answered. De Vera also won the Resorts World Manila Award.

Jannie Loudette Alipo-on and Hannah Iglesia were named Mutya ng Pilipinas-Tourism International and Mutya ng Pilipinas-Top Model of the World, respectively. Alipo-on of Navotas City, a 25-year-old, broadcast journalist, who bagged the Camera Club of the Philippines special award, will compete at the Miss Tourism International 2017 pageant in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia in December. Iglesia, a 20-year-old, professional model will be the country’s bet at the Top Model of the World 2017 to be held in St. George, Caribbean Island of Grenada in 2018.

Savannah Mari Gankiewicz, a 21-year-old, model from Hawaii, USA, who was awarded Best in Swimsuit and Mutya ng Cynos, took the title of Mutya ng Pilipinas-Overseas Communities 2017. “I am very proud to represent the Filipino culture from Hawaii and I will surely use this title to promote the beauty of the Philippine islands back home,” the Fil-American beauty said.

Angela Carla Sandigan of Pateros, winner of People’s Choice Award; and Sofia Marie Sibug of Albay, a television personality, who was named Mutya ng CWC International, were named 1st and 2nd runners up, respectively. The Best Designer’s Award was won by Rian Fernandez whose gown was worn by Sandrianne Esquilona of Tarlac.

Last year’s winners Ganiel Akrisha Krishnan and Justin Mae San Jose passed on their crowns to De Vera and Alipo-on, respectively. The Mutya ng Pilipinas 2017 finals was hosted Raymond Gutierrez and Bianca Gonzales with former Mutya ng Pilipinas Kristine Caballero-Aplal which was telecast over ABS CBN Channel.
