The indigenous
“Trash to Class” competition of Miss Philippines Earth 2017 was recently held
at the Grand Ballroom of Versailles Palace Alabang participated by this year’s
forty lovely candidates from all over the country.
The
Trash-to-Class Competition once again featured Filipino ingenuity and
creativity with a collection of original creations using recycled or trashed
materials. The environment-caused Manila-based pageant gives importance to this
pre-pageant fashion event showcasing outfits made from disposable
materials like old newspapers, plastics, paper cups, sacks, plastic spoons and
forks.
Adjudged the
best among the entries were Celine Mae Pangan of Ozamiz City who won the Gold
Medalwearing a blue and white creation and matching headdress made of materials
from sacks and plastic cups.
Rheena Mae
Ferrer of Makati City won the Silver Medal with her glittering white/silver
jumpsuit made of aluminum tubs of soft drink cans. Bronze medals were shared by Klaidel Hope
Anderson Concepcion of Marikina City and Marie Sherry Ann Tormes of Mandaluyong
City. Concepcion was cited for an outfit
completed just a few hours before the show made from excess parts of soft drink
plastic covers shared by fellow candidates as her original entry from a local
designer failed to come.
Special awards
were given to Kim de Guzman of Olongapo City as Miss Boardwalk; Samantha Viktoria
Acosta of Pulilan, Bulacan as Miss Psalmstre 2017 and Miss Redfox; and Neliza
Bautista of Misamis Oriental as Miss Placenta 2017.
The Trash to
Class competition is part of the Miss Philippines Earth 2017 preliminaries to
determine the semifinalists after the Swimsuit (Beauty of Figure) and before
the Beauty of Face/Poise, and Beauty of Intelligence competitions.
The winner of
Miss Philippines Earth 2017 will be crowned by reigning Miss Philippines Earth
Loren Mar Artajos during the grand coronation night to be held the SM Mall of
Asia on July 15 at 7 PM to be telecast over ABS CBN of July 16 at 10 AM. (BY
