Miss Asia Pacific Int’l returns with 40 delegates

After a decade hiatus, Miss Asia Pacific International 2016 makes a grand comeback with the presentation of the 40 candidates coming from around the world held at the Waterfront Casino Pavilion Manila on Thursday afternoon.
Miss Yangon Nay Chi Lin won Darling of the Press chosen by members of the press with Miss Canada Natalie Carriere and Miss South Sudan Achol Arow named 2nd and 3rd, respectively. A day earlier, the National Costume Competition was held with Miss Indonesia An Nisaa Meidina topping the event while Miss Thailand Chawanya Thanamwong won second place and Ganiel Miss Philippines Akrisha Krishnan named 3rd place.
“It’s back and we are proud of these stunning delegates from around the world,” said Jacqueline Tan, President of the Mutya ng Pilipinas Organization, during the press presentation. “I’m grateful for the overwhelming support both from the media and sponsors to revive this classic beauty pageant in this side of the world,” she added.
The Miss Asia Pacific International originally started in 1968 as Miss Asia Quest, considered as Asia’s oldest pageant, expanded to Miss Asia Pacific in 1984 and eventually Miss Asia Pacific International in 2004 with Miss Costa Rica Leonora Jimenez-Monge as the first winner in 2005. She was stripped of her title and first runner up Yevgeniya Lapova of Russia took over. The Philippines’ Jedah Hernandez finished as fourth runner up. The Philippines has won four times with Michele Aldana the last time in 1993.
The rest of the 40 beauty delegates are from Australia, Bangladesh, Belarus, Bolivia, China, Colombia, Cook Islands, Egypt, France, Germany, Guam, HongKong, India, Iraq, Japan, Korea, Lebanon, Macau, Myanmar, Malaysia, Mongolia, Nepal, Netherlands, New Caledonia, New Zealand, Peru, Russia, Siberia, Singapore, Taiwan, Ukraine, USA and Vietnam. Miss Asia Pacific International 2016 finals will be held at the Sheridan Hotel and Beach Resort and Spa in Puerto Princesa, Palawan on November 23.
